How to Setup a Wireless Router

Something which was considered a luxury a few years back has now become need of the hour, and it is the Internet. There must be some device which should be capable enough of letting everyone connect to a network. A wireless router does exactly the same. But a router does not start to transmit internet signals by just plugging into an electrical source. It rather needs to be manually setup and configured before you start using it. But you do not have to stress about it, a manufacturer is well aware of the fact that a large part of users are going to be non-technical, and so, they have kept it easy for any and everyone to setup the network.

Your wireless router is going to be the heart of your home network, so it should be selected after a thorough research. A number of parameters like, security feature, processor, coverage area etc. must be looked upon before selecting a router, as there are a number of models from a number of brands.

Setting Up your Wi-Fi Router would not take much of your time or effort. With the web based setup method, it is a very easy and handy process. You just have to follow the steps given below to finish the setup process of your device.

  • Plug your Wireless router to a power source and turn it ON.

  • With an Ethernet cable, connect the router to a computer.

  • You must now open the web management console of the router by typing the IP Address of your device in the web address field of a web browser.

  • After you have written the login details, press the Enter key on your keyboard. Doing so will take you to the web based management console of your wireless router.

  • Under the Wireless Setup section on that page, click Enable if it is not selected by default.

  • Now change the SSID, name of your wireless network, to your choice.

  • Change the wireless security of your device to WPA2-PSK, as this is the highest level of security available at the moment.

  • Enter a password against the passphrase field which you is required for a device to be connected to the network.

  • Click the ‘Save’ button, run the Internet Test.

  • Then click the ‘Finish’ button to complete the setup.

What to do if the Login window does not appear?

  1. An IP Address and DNS Server Address must automatically be obtained by your computer.

  2. Make it sure that you have entered the correct IP Address in the web browser.

  3. Reboot the router and try it once again.
